We don't always say hello to new members or goodbye to departing members, because with most of the members being expats we'd be doing it rather too often, but just this once I would like to make an exception. We're about to say good bye to the Yorkies, better known as Carol and Paul Fawcett. From the time they joined they have been enthusiastic and committed members, diving regularly and being good company (of course) but also pitching in to help. They're always there early and among the last to leave, mucking in cheerfully with some of the less appetising bits of being a club, and (speaking as a Dive Manager) just being some of the most co-operative divers in the group. They are off to Australia to start a new life, and I'd like, on behalf of all of us, to thank them both for all they have contributed to the Club and wish them all success and happiness in the bottom of the world, so to speak. Which makes me wonder, actually, why on earth these two "rufty tufty northerners" (speaking as a shandy drinking southerner, as Paul puts it) chose a place so far south that if they went any further south they'd fall off the globe.

Personally having buddied Carol many times, I shall miss her singing to the fish, and not miss her trashing me on air consumption. Thanks for the great dives Carol. A lot of other aging male members will I am sure go to the grave like me with fond memories of her accidentally taking her swim suit off with her wet suit last weekend. I didn't dive so often with Paul, but when I did, it was always a joy. Had you still been around for the AGM you'd have been a sure bet for joint diver of the year award.

Thanks guys and good luck to you both.
